CHASM Monthly Grant: $20,000 for Women-Led Startups in the U.S.
- Deadline : July 23, 2025
- Businesses, Startups, Women, Non-Binary
Only 400 AmEx grants up for grabs, snag $10K (or $30K!) for your brick-and-mortar before the clock runs out.
Donor: American Express, administered by Main Street America
About: Picture the heartbeat of your town, coffee shops that remember your order, bookstores that host Friday-night poetry, corner markets that sponsor Little League. American Express looked at those storefronts and saw an insurance policy for the entire economy. That’s why they’re injecting $4 million, 400 grants of $10,000 each into the exact places where neighbors still bump into each other. But this isn’t charity; it’s a calculated wager on the ripple effect: a fresh awning here, a new POS system there, and suddenly foot traffic jumps 20 %. Our master list of for-profit grants rarely features unrestricted cash this size for “ordinary” storefronts, which tells you how fiercely AmEx believes in the power of one block to lift an entire zip code.
Reviewers rank every proposal on a four-point rubric: feasibility, need, impact, and community reach. Past winners reveal the cheat code, tie every dollar to a before-and-after metric you can photograph. Instead of “upgrade lighting,” write “swap buzzing fluorescents for warm LEDs that keep customers browsing 18% longer, leading to an extra $1,200 in weekly sales.” The 25 applicants who do this best will unlock a second round: a $30,000 Enhancement Grant that turns a modest refresh into a full-blown transformation. Browse our U.S. grants hub and you’ll spot the same storytelling pattern in every success story: specificity sells.
When the funds hit your account on October 15, the clock starts ticking to December 31. The smartest owners front-load procurement (order that espresso machine or POS upgrade before holiday inventory eats the budget), then schedule a soft re-launch tied to Small Business Saturday. Last year’s cohort saw an average 32 % sales spike between Thanksgiving and New Year’s simply because their project finished early and their marketing synced with national “shop small” momentum. Want the exact timeline we give clients? Check our New York playbook; the same cadence works from Boise to Biloxi.
We dissected the last 50 winning packets and found three moves that triple acceptance odds: (1) a single “hero photo” of your storefront that screams potential, (2) a one-sentence community impact statement that names local partners by name, and (3) a line-item budget so precise it accounts for sales tax. Our strategists turn those ingredients into a narrative that reviewers skim once and instantly fund. If you’re serious about turning $10K into $30K, book a free 30-minute roadmap call. We’ll stress-test your idea, polish your budget table, and make sure you hit “submit” 24 hours before the portal buckles under last-minute traffic.
