The Indiecon International Travel Grant 2026 is designed to bring independent publishers, zinesters, book artists, and digital creators to Germany’s premier indie publishing festival. Eligibility is intentionally broad regarding format—print publications, podcasts, websites, and newsletters all qualify. However, the geographic eligibility is strictly divided into two competitive pools: three spots for EU Member States, and three spots for the rest of the world. Use the interactive checker below to confirm your project format qualifies and to ensure you select the correct geographic pool before beginning your application.

The EU vs. Worldwide Quota System

The most common eligibility mistake applicants make is misinterpreting the "European" pool. The donor explicitly restricts this pool to publishers based in EU member states. If your publishing practice is based in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, or any other non-EU European nation, you are not eligible for the EU pool. You must apply under the Worldwide pool. Applying to the wrong pool will likely result in immediate disqualification.

Format and Thematic Preferences

While solo, conventional publishing operations are technically eligible, the organizers (brueder coop) strongly prioritize projects that explore alternative economic models, such as cooperatives, collectives, and community-driven platforms. Additionally, your eligibility to win relies heavily on your ability to propose a compelling, mandatory conference talk that addresses political, cultural, or societal issues within independent publishing.

Don't let a poorly framed talk proposal disqualify you.

Being eligible is only the first step. The curators select grantees based on a strict 1500-character talk proposal and a line-item Euro budget. Submit an assessment, and our experts will review your narrative and financial framing to ensure you meet the jury's exact expectations.
