Grant Overview
Unlock Funding for Sustainable Climate and Biodiversity Solutions in ODA-Eligible Countries
Donor: International Climate Initiative (IKI), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)
About: The IKI Small Grants programme represents a groundbreaking opportunity for small regional, national, and local organizations committed to addressing critical climate and biodiversity challenges. Launched by the German Federal Government, this innovative funding initiative aims to empower grassroots organizations that are at the forefront of creating impactful, localized solutions to global environmental challenges.
The programme is strategically designed to support organizations that have demonstrated experience in local project implementation and are seeking to expand their impact. By focusing on small-scale, context-tailored initiatives, IKI Small Grants addresses the unique challenges faced by local actors who often struggle to access international funding mechanisms.
This funding opportunity is more than just financial support; it's a comprehensive capacity development program that seeks to strengthen local climate and biodiversity actors worldwide. Organizations selected will not only receive funding but also benefit from targeted support to enhance their institutional capabilities, develop strategic networks, and contribute meaningfully to national and global environmental goals.
The grant's approach is deeply rooted in the principles of the Paris Agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). By supporting projects that align with Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and biodiversity conservation efforts, the programme ensures that local initiatives contribute to broader global sustainability objectives. This alignment demonstrates the critical role of bottom-up approaches in addressing complex environmental challenges.
For organizations looking to make a tangible difference, the IKI Small Grants programme offers a unique pathway to transform innovative ideas into actionable projects. Whether you're focused on greenhouse gas mitigation, climate change adaptation, forest conservation, or biodiversity protection, this grant provides the resources and support needed to drive meaningful change in your community.
